John Alston
Following on from my previous post, I have now decided to replace my dampers with Protechs and also replace the springs. I know this subject has been done to death but I have a few questions I need answers to. 1. If both are available, is it preferable to use the through tube mounting rather than the under Dedion tube damper mounting. 2. How do you calculate the correct spring length for the damper chosen. 3. Would you use 2.25 or 1.9 diameter springs. 4. What spring rate would be recommended for a 1.8 Supersport road use only. Many thanks guys and I hope you can offer some advice John A
charlie_pank
1. Don't know 2. the spring length will determine how high the car sits and thus how much of the damper is exposed at rest - James Whiting says aim for 1/3 bump to 2/3 droop at rest. Will the protech dampers be the same length as the ones you're taking off - if yes, you can just use the same length springs. 3. A spring is graded in terms of how much force (weight) gives how much compression, I guess the diameter affects the rate at which it compresses - you'll need to look that up, but I presume the spring manufacturer will be able to recommend a rate for your application and weight of car. 4. As above
elie boone
The advantage of the under the DD tube fixing is that u can have longer damper and spring, it makes it just a bit easy'er to controle the damping
