virden
The clearance between the tyres and wings on my S3 is 20mm higher on the LHS than the RHS. A spirit level shows the chassis to be horizontal side to side, ditto the headlights and the indicators. The wings are fitted to the stays in precisely the same way. The outer tips of the wing stays are the same height above the ground. So is it simply a case of each wing being a different shape as well as handed? GPBox
.....or you have a 15" wheel on one side and a 13" on the other ! ........sorry I know this does not help !
elie boone
Or you have a wing from the 80's and one from a later date, is one wing thicker in material than the other ?
virden
Nope wheels and tyres same size/make. Car is 1996, but no evidence of it ever having been damaged. Just poor quality moulds?
stevemersey
I have a 91 S3 with clamshells and having recently had a bike fall off the wall and land on one wing I know the stays are very bendable and the most likely cause of trouble. If everything is the right height and level, I would look at the other dimesnions with fore and aft position being a possiblity.
tbird
probably done this and it sounds obvious, but have you measured from ground to top of Tyre, because if stays are correct then only thing left is the profile, have you got a profile guage you could use to check shape Tim Edited by - tbird on 9 Aug 2012 12:28:
virden
Tbird, did that, both tyres same height. Longitudinal fixing same both sides. On viewing from the nose back the LHS wing has a more upswept profile to its outter edge.
shn7
Plenty of earlier Ferraris are different left to right IIRC due to hand made moulds. Consider it the uniqueness of a hand built car.
Richard K
Yep. My Clams are uneven. But you don't notice it from the driving position 😬 You will probably need to undo the stay if you intend to 'bend it' but be careful to make sure the bolt hole still lines up. Aidan Parte
Is one clam of the bearded variety?
virden
Richard, most certainly not, if there is one thing we can grow up here it is native seafood, though I do sport chinny myself,
EFA
The original 412P my Ferrari's moulds are taken from is 1" longer on the drivers side. Naturally the replica reflects this!
Jonathan Kay
Austin built an A40 with two doors on one side and one on the other... and didn't notice. Or so legend has it. Jonathan

Baz Hemsley
Just put the tape on mine. New 2012. 20mm. difference at least from left to right. h/lamp to wing o/s 17mm. h/lamp to wing n/s 5mm.
techbod
My 7 had the same issue - the clearance between clams and headlight was different on each side and no amount of measuring and fiddling seemed to able to pinpoint why or fix it. In the end I removed both stays and compared - there were small differences in some of the dimensions. I cut and re-welded one stay to match the other and the clam / headlight clearance is much improved. Its not perfect, but like others have found the wings appear to be slightly different in profile.
