jackb_ms
About the suspension position. On my 21 there is two position for fitting the suspension, one in the middle of the tube, the second underneath the DE Dion tube. The suspension was originally fitted on "underneath" setting It seems the position in the middle of the tube is a slight angle compared to the underneath position which is straight down Why 2 positions? Effect on handling? reduce size of damper? Is it something historical? Cheers Jack
simonpa
The dampers are different lengths. Not sure why the different tube designs, though. I know they had problems with the bottom mounts 'peeling' until they added a strengthening gusset! Cheers - Simon
Johnty Lyons
It's historical the earlier cars used shorter dampers mounted through the tube there where many of these tubes in stock at Arch when the suspension w as changed to longer dampers so the existing tubes where modified by welding a small tube underneath . When these started to peel away a further mod was made by adding strengthening gussets.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted August 7, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted August 7, 2012 The De Dion tubes were made with both fittings to make them suitable for both older and younger cars.
