Ian, I'll have to dig out a photo but I have no reason to suppose that it is different from a Seven (apart from the under-car panelling). It must have been the edge of something.

Mick *eek* - either way you soon loose a lot of oil.

Kevsta: new one in place already but thank you.

RJ and Oliver: almost certainly, bits of metal in the sump. Scrape/gouge on one corner of the sump.

 

However, it was only the final problem on the 21. (cue all the jokes which have gone through my mind already. I know these cars are jinxed and D21P's car and mine are twins). Relay failures have meant that the starting has been erratic, temperamental and unpredictable since December. Windscreen wiper motor has failed.
