Trailer electrics

I was planning to borrow my Dad's '85 Landcruiser this weekend to tow my college kart club's kart trailer. I'd asked him to test the electrics as he's never used the car to tow before.

He was planning to connect up the trailer board from somebody else's trailer but stopped when he remembered the car has a 24V electrical system.

Should this have been reduced to 12V at the trailer plug point? If not is there any way I can use the car to tow a trailer with electrics designed around 12V systems?

Hi Sam.

My sister used to drive a Landcruiser, and I remember that only the starter was 24V powered. All other equipments were 12V.

Actually, there were two 12V batteries. They were parallel connected, except for the starter which was serial connected, by the mean of a switch in the ignition key mechanism.

That means you can safely connect your trailer.

BTW... test the voltage with a voltmeter. Even french people are sometimes wrong *confused*
