scooby dooby doo
I've got a small nick in a track rod end gaitor. Caterham want just over 10 quid for a replacement track rod end and postage. This is bonkers. Anybody got a source for just the rubber gaitor 🤔 HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU

ECR
I tried to source these a few years back with no success. I believe they may be a Quinton Hazel part. Anyone got any connections there ?
scooby dooby doo
It just seems so silly that you have to pay a tenner just to get a 3 pence bit of rubber. the alternative is to find something that's a close enough fit that comes off a mk 2 escort or cotina or something common.... scooby dooby doo
aha! have a look here right at the bottom, cunningly disguised as "Polyurethane replacement tie rod dust boots" HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU
Mr Locust
They have to be available separately. Caterham supply them as part of the SVA kit to cover the locking nuts on the track control arms. 😬
Fast Westie
Hoopy Tried those and they didn't fit... The car in front is a Westfie1d
scooby dooby doo
Fast Westie, do you mean they don't fit a westie, or don't fit a Caterham. or is the track rod end the same in both cases 🤔 Did you try a range of sizes or is the design just totally wrong 🤔 HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU
Joe 90
I don't think you can critises Caterham for this one, I'm fairly sure the suppliers don't offer the gaiters separately. Can you superglue the nick 🤔 This might sound like a daft idea but I came across some CV boots that you superglue shut (avoids removing the driveshaft and CV joint, saves hours). 99,000 miles so far
Fred
caterham do have the gaiter. they have them to make up the sva pack the stick on cv boots is what the cowboys use they last about 5min. fred
JP
Hoopy, Are you after the little plastic thing on the track rod end or a track rod gaiter/boot ? If it's the former I might have one - I thought I ordered a boot a while ago but got a little piece of plastic in the post instead - I'll have a look later... scooby dooby doo
I want the conical bit of rubber that gets slightly squished as you put the taper from the track rod end into the track rod arm on the upright. Its about 32 mm diameter at one end, 12 mm at the other and 15 mm or so tall. Not sure what the little plastic thing you mention is HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU
Fast Westie
Hoopy Fast Westie, do you mean they don't fit a westie, or don't fit a Caterham. or is the track rod end the same in both cases Westfields use an Escort track rod end, a Transit drag link for an upper ball joint and a Cortina or Maxi (yeuch!) lower ball joint. Did you try a range of sizes or is the design just totally wrong I tried a range of them and they didn't clip on the joints correctly The car in front is a Westfie1d
scooby dooby doo
ar5e. I guess I'll just have to stump up and buy new rods ends. ☹️ HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU
philwaters
Could you not carefully remove the one you have, clean up with white spirit and then apply some black silicone sealant... if it doesn't last for long, at least the credit card had a month off..... or you can get 'special' glue to do CV gaiters, which I think is just like bike puncture repair glue Phil Waters You mean you can drive these? I thought it was just there to polish 😬
scooby dooby doo
I could... but it needs a new one and i just object to having to buy a whole new one on principle ❗ HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU

TerryF
Are you sure that you are not at cross purposes with Caterham? I bought a pair of 'gators' from them when the kids rabbit ate one of mine! Can't remember the cost, but it is bound to be cheaper than a full track rod end. TerryF
scooby dooby doo
They told me it couldn't be done ☹️ I'll give Raceline a ring as JP says he got one from there. Actually - do raceline have a website - they seem to be a fairly usful stockist and I'd like to see a list of their full range.
