Martin J
We are leaving on Friday for a short Euro camping trip in our 7's, France, Belguim & Germany....can't wait Which portion of the headlamp do I tape off? Is it the area that starts at say nine o clock & ends in the centre?
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted June 30, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted June 30, 2012 Quoting Martin Jeffrey: Is it the area that starts at say nine o clock & ends in the centre? Yes. At least that's the bit I do. 😬
tbird
If you look at the Lens you can see the area that needs to be masked it has a different pattern http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/img/p/4033-4007-thickbox.jpg http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee169/bigherb/AssyMasking640.jpg Tim Edited by - tbird on 30 Jun 2012 11:29:08 Edited by - tbird on 30 Jun 2012 11:31:
Bricol
Unless you have clear lenses like mine - no marks on the lens. I have to admit I've never bothered masking them off - and so far, fingers crossed, not been stopped. Never been flashed by oncoming traffic either. tbird
How do clear lenses work on Caterham Headlamps, Tim
Bricol
Like they do on any other car - throw light forward 😬 The Caterham headlamp uses an industry standard 7" lamp unit - so you can swop it from sealed beam to halogen easily enough, and use alternative makes of lenses. I'm using Wipac Crystal (I think) ones - clear lenses that work very well. Pretty cheap from one of the on-line Land Rover purveyors - 27 quid I think for a pair. andy_h
my guess is it's a Land Rover. If I'm right I admit to being very sad to spot it. 😳
tbird
😬 Bricol, even the Wipac crystal has the area defined that needs taping, http://i.ebayimg.com/20/!BgyYTs!BGk~%24(KGrHqQH-EIEsLrs3t3RBLGqHuPErQ~~_35.JPG
stevethemook
How may European cars have their headlamps masked when they are over here.. 🤔 If I remember to fit the masking tape at Dover on Thurs I will do it but I'm not to worried. Steve
Stationary M25 Traveller
None - but our finest traffic officers don't seem to worry about it. Les gendarmes, on the other hand .......
Boris
I bought a set of beam deflectors when I first started driving in Europe, I do about 60,000 miles on the continent each year, have done in succesive roles and succesive vehicles since 1985. First as a Trucker, then a distibution Manager, then a Sales rep, then a courier, then a Trucker again, and for the last 11 years an Exhibition contractor. Also holidays in a car/4X4/motorhome. Never fitted them, still in the tool bag just incase.

Bricol
TBird - they don't you know. Lens is completely free of markings - the "marks" you see in that piccie are on the reflector. You are supposed to mask of course, but . . . Bri
