Legronge Posted October 27, 2002 Share Posted October 27, 2002 Having trouble locating a ford rear axle for modification and subsequent replacement for my Ital version. Having trawled through 2 large scrap yards yesterday, I only spotted one (axleless) Mk2! Did, however find 3 Capris with axles intact, though i have a nasty feeling these may be too wide 🤔 One scrappie wanted £100 for said axle, to which I laughed aloud, the other was more reasonable. So my queeries are: Will a Capri axle do the job and, if not, does anyone have a Ford axle to dispose of 🤔 If anyone is interested I will be getting rid of my Ital axle with Quaiffe LSD and 2 sound half shafts (one brand new). Could also try looking in classic ford Magazine (www.classicfordmag.co.uk). I got my axle from a specialist escort breaker in the north of England complete with 3.9 diff for £50. I believe the capri axle off some of the smaller engined mark I and mark II's are similar, but would only search if you know exactly what you are looking for!!! Tony Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
C7JFM Posted October 27, 2002 Share Posted October 27, 2002 I've got an english axle...3.9 diff. already bracketed up for a caterham with new halfshaft bearings, new brakes to include shoes, springs and brake cylinders, and the smaller pinion flange. It whines a bit and leaks from one wheel bearing, but I'm pretty sure the LSD is OK.
