pugwash Posted June 24, 2012 Share Posted June 24, 2012 I had a 1.8 Freelander. 24 mpg was about what I got with mixed town and motorway driving. Almost did not matter how i drove it thats what i got. It is a quite heavy not very aerodynamic lump so to keep it bowling along at reasonable motorway speeds the motor it having to put some effort in. tbird Posted June 25, 2012 Share Posted June 25, 2012 I think you have hit the nail on the head, "modern", well it was designed 85, launched around 88 so its 24years old, also slightly under powered for the car, I think every other freelander variant is more economical than the 1.8. Bit like the early 2.0 petrol discovery which was also a dog, even the V8 was more economical when driven carefully.
