Englishmaninwales
Payen head gasket sets advise replacing the early oil rail with the lastest Land Rover version. Is there an inherent weakness in the early version or is it simply a function of the number of times the head bolts have stressed the threads in the oil rail? (The earlier one is a nice die casting and the replacement, whilst sturdier looking, is a poorly sand cast version. Looks like it also needs a little fettling to allow fitting the Caterham dry sump). rj
The latter is a lot stiffer, and AFAIK Mr Andrews recommends this. I would use the latest any time in my own engine.
