Steve Cragg
I'm trying to find a new battery for my 7. Have tried a few local outlets but get blank looks when I mention what it is and no one seems to stock the Banner battery currently fitted. Other than Banner is there an equivalent battery that will do the job? Any help you can give greatly appreciated SteveC A 7 owner for two weeks 😬
WILL FLY
What's wrong with Caterham Parts ? Alternatively I've heard mini batteries (old type mini) should do the job, or get a race gel battery like a Red Top from Demon Thieves or somewhere. julians
I tried everywhere (kwikfit, charie browns etc etc), all I got were blank looks. In the end I took the old battery into a motorbike shop (motorcycle city, they have anumber of stores around the country), they had one in stock that fitted its footprint, it was made by yokohama. Steve Cragg
Thanks for the help. Have spoken to Banner and they have given me the details of a distributor in Lincoln. Battery ordered today will pick up Monday (£39.80 + Vat) SteveC
julians
hmmm, starts the car quite well for a rubber brick. Anyway, just to prove I'm not imagining it:- http://www.tkyoko.com/products/yokohama/product4.htm
Sheds Moderator
I ended up paying £55 at Caterham parts, then filling it with acid at a friendly dealer. Berwick on Tweed is a bit low on motor factors; the ones here didn't list it. If you live nearer civilisation than I do try a specialist battery supplier. When I worked in Oldham there was a dealer who sold batteries for everything from burglar alarms to invalid carriages to forklifts, taking in mundane stuff like cars and bikes en route. He probably had one for the QE2 in the back and was very useful and cheap: there must be a similar shop in most industrial areas. Incidentally it's not often you can sing the praises of Oldham: I'll make a note of the date.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted October 25, 2002 Leadership Team Share Posted October 25, 2002 Steve, Banner gave me the number of an agent near me, Bolton area, who only charged me £25 +vat, filled/charged/etc. Make sure you keep the breather from the old one. Steve Cragg
Been away for a few days and only just seen last post. I thought I'd found a good price but obviously should have looked harder ❗ As it happens the battery wasn't delivered on Monday, they forgot to include it. Another few days without playing ☹️ When you say keep the breather, what do you mean 🤔 The current battery has one small hole at either end in the air space. One has a small rubber grommet fitted the other, worryingly, is open. There is some evidence of fluid having leaked form this side. SteveC
Paul McKenzie
Steve, You need to switch the grommets round so you can attach the plastic breather tube into the correct side of the battery so it can be easily routed down the side of the footwell to the road Paul
Steve Cragg
No plastic breather tube fitted currently so guess I will need to sort one. Is this something I need to get from Caterham or is it simple enough just to make one up? Steve
