simonpa
I'm looking for a decent Canon macro to try. Does anyone have one they don't use anymore? Cheers - Simon
Dr Slotter
There's a mod you can do to a 'nifty-fifty' that works quite well if you want to dip your toe before dumping a load a cash on a proper macro?
Graham Sewell
For the nifty-fifty (or even the 18-55mm kit lens) a simple extension tube will get you close to macro magnification for sensible money.
Area Representative skeetsy Posted May 29, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted May 29, 2012 Hi Simon, I bought a set of these extension tubes for my EOS 20D a few years ago and they are excellent. There are cheaper alternatives around which don't have the contacts to allow the auto focus and through lens metering to work, but certainly I would recommend these. If you can wait until the 9th of June I could meet you at Fleet services on my way to the channel tunnel, and you'd be more than welcome to borrow them for a week to see what you think whilst I'm driving to Rome and back.... All the best Richard
simonpa
Thanks for the replies. I've an old FD 50mm, so will try a reversing ring with that to see what the IQ is like. Skeetsy - I may take you up on that. I've a set of non-EOS tubes, so may get an idea of what sort of magnification I can get and then take it from there. The Kenko ones seem to be better quality items :) Cheers - Simon
