Roadru77er
Changing the top wishbone balljoint for MOT, how tight should they be? Had a hell of a job removing the old one (so tight!) thread lock? Now the new one is even tighter going in. Any tips / tricks? Don't think the thread is buggered.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted May 24, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted May 24, 2012 Shouldn't be that tight. Should screw in very easily and use lock nut to secure. No need for loctite. Would be worth running a tap through if you have one the right size.
sigmasmith
I know that just turning one through 180deg to get a new gaitor on a balljoint on my car was very tight. At the time I was thinking that the thread must have powder coating on aswell It seemed like making a camber adjustment would have taken a bit of strength The balljoints came ready fitted to my wishbones, but maybe a using a tap for anyone building at the moment would be a good tip. Roadru77er
Really tight (Scaffolding pole for leverage tight) thought about tap but only got 16mm coarse believe to be 16 mm fine.
myothercarsa2cv
How long have the balljoints been in there? It might be corrosion? Try a can of plus gas
shn7
I used enough leverage trying to undo one I managed to bend the wishbones = scrap. I would recommend liberal amounts of copper grease on the new one prior to fitting to give you half a chance of getting it off again should the need arise. No thread lock as the lock nut should see to that.
