Barbarossa.
My 7 is now 15 years old. Any advice on what perishable bits should be inspected or replaced. I've changed the cam belt regularly, brake hoses last year and radiator hoses a couple of years ago when one of them split. What about things like brake piston seals? Flexible fuel lines? What is the life of these? Paul
mav
Engine mounts, gearbox mounting bobbin, flexi fuel lines, brake calipers overhaul if required. Check cv boots etc too...
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 18, 2012 Leadership Team Share Posted May 18, 2012 If nothing else definitely the flexi fuel hose from the tank to the fuel filter - they perish and crack on the underside. Stu.

jonboylaw
Anything made from rubber, like the isolation mounts on the radiator and exhaust, also the engine mounts and gearbox mounts, plus all suspension bushes. It will make the world of difference.

Graham Perry
Brake fluid. Gearbox oil & diff oil. If its done a lot of miles consider a revamp of the starter and alternator if you really want to get enthusiastic. You might also want to check the propshaft UJ's as it can be tricky to lubricate and often gets forgotten. The grease nipples also have a habit of falling out as well. Graham D
If flexible pipework is cracked or perished or there is excessive play in any joints - then replace them, but as a general rule: If it ain't bust - don't fix it!

Q Catcher
Fuel hoses. SM25T did a post on this recently. IIRC, there are four short sections of 8mm hose, and you need proper petrol hose clips, not Jubilee clips.
Stationary M25 Traveller
I have also just replaced the 5/8" bore vent hose from tank to filler neck - the smaller one that runs beside the main filler hose. The original was hardened and cracked all over. Tough job finding petrol resistant hose - no one stocked it in car spares shops or Pirtek - got some on line in the end.
