Red Line Components
Hi - how much of a difference does this make - can you express this in terms of RPM at say 80mph compared to the standard (3.62?) Cheers Chris

V7 SLR
There's a gearing calculator available on the web somewhere. I've already downloaded it so, if someone doesn't post the link I'll email it to you upon request (email). Jason Plato
An example is that my 3.92 requires a shift into 5th along the straight at Curborough . And I am banging on the limiter in 6th over Avon rise at combe , whereas a 3.62 is in 4th at curborough and just changing into 6th at combe . Dunno if this helps ?? DonkeyDave
on 185/60/13 tyres 6 speed box and 3.92 diff = 5000rpm at 80 it makes the 1.6SS into a real rocket, but not a motorway cruiser - I love it edited to add thats 80 'caterham' miles an hour, but seems to be more or less correct! scooby dooby doo
I have the 3.92 as well. But with no windscreen you can't here the engine noise on the motorway ❗ 😬 Although I've also changed from 185 to 205 rear tyres. I reckon that 3.62 to 3.92 makes 7.6% difference (revs higher at a given speed) 185s to 205s makes 4.3 % difference in the other direction (revs lower) hmmm.... From 3.62 to 3.92 is roughly the same as going from 225 tyres to 185s. HOOPY Membership Number 4136 R706KGU
New Barbie
I have the 3.92 diff in my car. It's not difficult to live with at all, the acceleration is improved through more agressive gearing and my 1.6ss K still does 120mph quite happily - plenty enough with an aero and shades on the French roads. Who the hell ever worried about engine noise in a Caterham anyway, I like listening to the engine, that's half the fun. CHRIS CLARK
..................... but, it gets bl%dy boring on those inevitable have-to-get-somewhere-soon motorway bits with a 3.92 diff and about 5,000 rpm.
Tim Sture
Anthony - I've emailed you as I'm interested, if it's still available? Quick question to anyone in the know, if my superlight is geared at 17.5mph/1000 rpm in 6th (ie, 4000 rpm at 70) does that mean I've got the standard (ie, non-3.92) gearing?
