Red SLR
SLR on swan necks. The problem was - to start with - hunting and surging on and off throttle. We have now changed the 02 sensor and this is sorted. However, we have been left with a fast idle, of about 1500 revs - sometimes as much as 2000rpm. The car is running sweet as other than that and pulls like a train. I have adjusted the throttle stop to the lowest it will go. Its still the same. Anyone got any ideas? Red SLR
Forgot to say, we also changed the stepper motor, and it made no difference. The TPS seems ok - I think - as if you unplug it the engine idle stays about the same - about 1500rpm... or is that wrong? Ta

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 14, 2012 Leadership Team Share Posted April 14, 2012 Have you reset the TPS/ecu? Could it be the IACV is open slightly? Stu.
Jason Plato
maybe talking nonsense .... is there an ecu/ Iacv reset procedure like on the normal k series plenums ? turn ignition on and then slowly depress throttle five times . turn ignition off and then back on to start . Red SLR
No difference ... ☹️ Anyone know if there is a way to test the tps? Or is it a case of just get a new one?
charlie_pank
Surely if you unplug the tps and nothing changes, then your tps is failing? Try measuring the tps resistance at different positions and compare with manufacturers spec (ask Caterham cars what it should be)

David Lynch
Simon I believe some of the early SLR's share the same TPS as lowly 1.4's like mine. If so it looks like this and is labelled JZX2963 but part number is MKG10004 (Rimmers) http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ProductImages/Large/MKG10004.jpg Mine failed as unreliable/stuttering at low sites (fine when thrashed) and idle never dropped below 1500rpm. Rimmers want £120+(on back order) for the TPS 😳 I found a full 56mm TB assembly from early Disco (believe on most T series) and cannibalised TPS and spare stepper. One here on Ebay. I expect Oily will have a drawer full of them. Later K's had different idle control and TPS (SLD100080). Much easier to find
charlie_pank
+I just had a quick look in my parts bin. here is the one I found. You can make me an offer if it is of use. I note that it's a 3 pin plug and a quick go with the multimeter tells me it requires + and - feeds and then the 3rd pin will give a voltage reading back to the ecu.
