rj
Does it exist as 2.0? And is this a Lotus at all? here Rear wings are not. Car is advertised as 1972, but is an S3
Englishmaninwales
The original Lotus twincam (as in this example) were 1558cc, based on a 5 bearing Ford block, and capable up to about 1700cc in an advanced state of tune. The later Lotus twin cam, based on a Vauxhall/GM block, was 2 litre capacity. Dunno about the car from those pictures. Only a handful of genuine Lotus S3 had a factory fitted twincam. Eugene
Is it me, or does that look like a pre-lit westfield?
cskip
From what I can make out of the chassis plate it appears to be a Lotus. However the rear wings and roll bar don't look right?
7 wonders of the world
X/flow and the like can be bored and stroked up to circa 2100cc
Doug
There's something not quite right with that car, I agree. The rear wings are wrong for a start as is the roll bar. Having said that the rest does look OK. Edited by - Doug on 23 Mar 2012 16:32:

Area Representative manningpaul Posted March 23, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted March 23, 2012 I agree with Eugene, looks like a pre litigation Westfield.
David Mirylees
Lotus badge on the nose - must be a Lotus 😬 Reckon Eugene got it in one... Not much Lotus in that car...
Area Representative skeetsy Posted March 23, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted March 23, 2012 Well the cylinder head is legit 😬 and although I've never studied the alloy bodied pre-litigation Westies, if that's what they look like I can see why Caterham got a bit peeved.... All the best Richard
k.russell
birkin perhaps
rj
Not a Birkin. The tubes at the edge of the rear wings have a smaller bend radius on a Birkin.
Neil66
Looks like a gen S3 to me, it has the correct front suspension though it looks like it's been nickel plated. The engine bay with single diagonal looks correct as does the pedal box here (unlike mine!). The rear arches and roll bar are indeed wrong and judging by the dash it's had a resto in the 90's.... (ehh yeah like mine ;-) But - it it a lotus? I'm not so sure - the chassis plate looks more early Caterham but at this distance from the camera difficult to tell as they were indeed similar to the Lotus style... Engine - well who in their right mind would retain an old Anglia engine;-) Edited with linkys... elie boone
It could be one of the early Donkervoords circa 1979, these are identical to the Caterham of that period up to the front screen but the seating area is wider and the rear axle is Atlas. the rear arches look right for a Donkervoord. rj
Elie That could make sense as I have never seen those seats fitted before. I think there in Holland was a minimum required with of the cockpit, which has also made Caterham to modify the chassis.
elie boone
RJ, At some point in the 90's the gouvernement in NL has changed the rule in that it went from hip space to elbow space. that is the reason why the Donkervoord has a wider seat area. In fact Donkervoord took over a business that imported Caterhams in NL but it wasn't all 100% legal so together with a university they adapted the rear chassis to comply. techbod
I've only seen a couple of pre-lit Westfield in the flesh, so I don't know if this is true for all of them, but the thing that stood out as being different from the Caterham was both had a square transmission tunnel. The car the OP linked to has the rounder Caterham style tunnel.
rj
Looks like Elie has hit the nail here Same exhaust, seats and rear wings.
Area Representative skeetsy Posted March 24, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted March 24, 2012 I agree, I would now put money on it being a Donkervoort.... http://www.coolhunting.com/tech/assets/images/080128donkervoort.jpg
elie boone
And another anorak fact : only the kent engine chassis have the same chassis up to the screen as Caterham. The Pinto engined chassis had a different front section Chasiss 001 is still alive, i've seen it up close.
