jabbers Posted March 12, 2012 Share Posted March 12, 2012 Morning guys, My 2002 R300 is due a service and i have been advised by my local 7 specialist that the car doesn't need the foam baffle sump replacing, the foam can be left out completely, car has an appollo tank fitted, does this sound right ?? Cookie Monster Posted March 12, 2012 Share Posted March 12, 2012 Get rid & never ever replace. I have recently taken mine out & feel a lot happier without it. One of our guys from Penn has just spent a not inconsiderable amount on an engine rebuild due to the foam breaking up & clogging the oil pump pick up - result = an expensive & totally avoidable rebuild. Alex Birtwisle Posted March 13, 2012 Share Posted March 13, 2012 After a few thousand miles the foam becomes brittle and can/will fall apart. I noticed a dip in oil pressure (which I nearly ignored due to a known faulty oil pressure sender) so took the sump off and found the strainer totally clogged with the remains of the foam baffle.
