charlie_pank Posted January 21, 2012 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Fitting a sump surge-protector at the moment and got the sump off, Haynes says to clean off the remains of the old sump-gasket with a 'suitable' solvent. The over the counter stuff isn't based on acetone any more. I thought the change was to avoid sniffing, but Wikipedia suggests it was because acetone removed artificial nails. It also says that most of it is now based on ethyl acetate. That wouldn't be anywhere near as effective for workshop purposes.
