Julian Thompson
Having endured the wrath of Mr SVA's worst possible efforts for quite a while now, it occured to us the other night that perhaps we ought also to concern ouraselves with the fact that the Westfield has no proper front brakes! We've tried bleeding the system a lot, and even swapped the master cylinder but the spongy pedal is still there; we have noticed that the wear on the front discs is only on the outer edge(!) and that the rears lock up first. Any ideas V greatly appreciated. PS(we have also scored the discs/pads with sandpaper as instructed by Westfield to no avail!) Please help! F355GTS
Jue Were the discs/pads new? if so it's unusual that they should wear on the outside edge only, maybe they just need to do a few miles to bed in. Are they wearing on the outside edge on both sides? ie are the Calipers in line with the disks? if it is only one side you could add Shims/ washers to ensure that pad face and disc face are parallel Mark
Julian Thompson
Fair point Mark. Not looked at the wear both sides; would it be a common thing for a factory setup to wear unevenly towards one side? We've done circa 200 miles so far and still the fronts are pants. How much shimming would we consider?
Julian Thompson
Just looked at the discs. Wear is even with respect to inside/outside but definately only the extreme circumference of the disc. Surely this is wierd - looks like the pads are not parallel? Confused. Peter T
Either that, or your calipers are not parallel to the dicsk surface, have they been shimmed? or you might find that you have more washers on the top mounting bolt, than the bottom.Check this first with a good ruler! Fast Westie
Firstly, use thin spacers in place of pads and rebleed, some air remains trapped around the piston. Second, hold the pedal down for 48 hours using a bit of wood, ensures seals a fully bedded and air bubbles displaced.
