bourne17 Posted November 24, 2011 Share Posted November 24, 2011 Due to a damaged fixing I have undone the two allen bolts that hold the motor to the fixing bracket (with the 3 holes). There was a twisted wire that passed through a hole at the end of the two allen bolts. I have had to remove this wire. What was this for and do I need to replace it? Nick Pargiter Posted November 25, 2011 Share Posted November 25, 2011 The bolts screw in to the bellhousing. It sounds like the twisted wire is a 'Re-coil' or other thread repair device. If you are saying there is a small hole in each of the heads of the allen bolts and that the wire passes through these holes and ties the 2 bolts together, then this is lockwire - see here It is used to stop crucial bolts coming undone and not normally required for your starter motor.
