myothercarsa2cv
Hi All, My Mum is helping to organise a ball in aid of the Kent Youth charity. It's being held on the 26th November, at Leeds Castle (Maidstone). She would like to organise some photography, so came to me (heaven knows why!). So, it turns out I will be taking shots all evening, and I thought it would be great to get another photographer in (perhaps a real one) to help out, which would allow us to set up a portrait shoot (these seem to be popular at the events I've been to) as well as get some action shots. My aim is to produce a commemorative photo book for Kent Youth, and sell copies to guests if they would like them, as well as sell prints of the portrait shoot, so we can bolster the piggy bank a bit! If anyone would like to donate their time and skills to this, we would be very appreciative of your help. Thank you in advance!
The Laddie
Bit more than budding....in fact well sprouted, especially around the middle.. and Not too far away from you When and where and what requirements are my main questions Edit: Damn! Just re read and first 2 are already answered.... Regards Mike Edited by - The Laddie on 18 Oct 2011 15:52:
Bellissimmo
My daughter would probably be interested. She's been trying to get a business of the ground for a while and I'm sure she'd be glad of a chance to build her portfolio.
myothercarsa2cv
Sorry to not get back sooner! Thanks so much for the offers. Requirements: Own kit, i.e. SLR, lenses, tripod, flash guns, batteries to last the night, whatever you think might be necessary - if you have any portrait kit that would be a bonus, I don't have any of that! You will also need a dashing outfit Although The Laddie got there first, I'm sure we can accommodate Steve's daughter as well I shall speak to the powers that be (Mummy ). After all, if both of you are better than I am, I am happy to just pedal the computer and sort out the images afterwards. You will both have BM shortly! Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 20, 2011 Member Share Posted October 20, 2011 I presume you all know that you'll sell many more if you show them the proofs or finished item and get the orders during the do, rather than afterwards. Effects of alcohol and fear of looking mean can both work to the seller's advantage... Jonathan
myothercarsa2cv
Thanks Jonathan. I intend to have a computer set up so people can see if they are happy with the shots, pick the best one, etc, as well as downloading pics as we go. I don't have enough screens to do a 'theme park' though I will also get a sample book made up so people can see what's on offer. That's a good idea. With the proofs, how would you suggest I have them on hand? Printouts? I could probably organise a printer... But that would be a shedload of ink A drinks table nearby might also be a good idea 😬 😬 😬
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 20, 2011 Member Share Posted October 20, 2011 Too slow and awkward on a computer for people to find themselves. I suppose you could project with photo ID numbers for people to order against. Photos printed and displayed on a board. Well-lit area if possible. Near the bar is good. Also hawked table to table. That's a good one for playing on group dynamics. If you can't do a book in time then have a similar sample book for people to play with (as you already said!). myothercarsa2cv
Thanks Jonathan - not sure we'll have the capability to print on the night, but I wonder if my old printer might be up to it... Certainly can't make a book though! What would be the best way to quickly generate a proof book, with b&w images and file numbers like you get from a wedding photographer? Hopefully not specialist software... Help is much appreciated! I might start a thread in chitchat for this... Anyway, Mike and Steve's daughter are unfortunately unable to do the 26th, so I am back to begging on blatchat If anyone can pedal an SLR, drop me a line

Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 25, 2011 Member Share Posted October 25, 2011 As it's for charity you could try blagging a photo printer from somewhere local for the evening... I'd use Apple for sample photo books but I think that most commercial printers do something similar. Anyone used Photobox? myothercarsa2cv
Have done, Ian JK, I've used Photobox and been generally impressed with the quality of prints, and the photobook I ordered off them was top notch - so was planning to use them for the books. Will look around for somewhere who might be able to lend me a printer...
