Changing Radiator & Flushing Cooling System

Hi

I have recently bought a 1997 Roadsport *smile* which I am thoroughly enjoying.

At the weekend I took the nosecone off for the first time and noticed that the radiator is quite rusty and the coolant looks like it's seen better days.

Before winter I would like to change the radiator, flush out the system and replace the coolant, and I am hoping that you can offer me some advice on how to do this and how's best to purge the system of air when refilling.

The engine is a 1.6 K series supersport.

Many thanks for any pointers.......

Matt

I would (and did for my build) buy one of these to put in a high point of the system to help bleed once you've re-filled.

I'm sure the seller is a fellow club member.

Sorry, I have no experience of draining, but I'm sure others will be along shortly with some spot-on advice.

I did this earlier this year (K series 1.8vvc). Mine was running hot and no amount of fiddling was bringing the temps down. In the end I decided to get a new rad to see if this cured the problem.

I went for a Radtec Extreme radiator (call them, they're are very, very helpful).

Was going to fit this myself but chickened out and got Automotive Engineering (jj48 on here) to do it for me.

Once the air was bled (read everything on here about how to do this and do fit a bleed tee if you have a heater - when people say be patient and wiggle hoses, they're not exaggerating!) everything was fine and the Radtec is excellent and keeps the car at a steady 80 on a run.
