Updated championship standings after 14 rounds

Following the recent rounds at Aintree and Wiscombe 14 of 16 rounds have now been completed in this years speed championship sponsored by Autoglym and the class and championship standings are starting to take shape.

In class 1 Paul Boston (699.52) is now confirmed as class 1 champion as none of his rivals can catch his score. The minor placing’s being fought over between Alan Johnson (696.78), Robert Jacobs (695.67) and Paul Brown (694.657).

Matthew Jenkins (700.00) in class 2 has made 2 in row and is the 2011 Class 2 champion. 2nd and 3rd is a five way fight between Graham Howard (692.35), Robert Spencer (690.01), Paul Collins (689.46), Jon Ward (685.77), and Alan Bowler (683.81)

Class 3 is the only class still to be decided and is as always very competitive and the top spot looks to be a fight between David Nelson (697.98), Tom Price (697.13) and Richard Price (696.52) However Mark Gibson (693.88) and Jeff Smith (691.74) still have a theoretical chance of making it into the top 2.

Chris Howard-Harris (700.00) has retained his class 4 champions’ status for the second successive year after a string of record breaking runs, even though he was unable to win since Loton Park. 2nd and 3rd places look to be a competition between Stuart Miller (696.40), Shaun Elwell (695.63) Mike Sankey (694.82), Paul Forster (693.06).

With the top 3 runners in Class 5 confirming they won’t be attending the last 2 rounds at Anglesey the new class 5 champion is Mark Durrant (692.05) with Simon Rogers runner up (689.39) and 3rd place to Rob Margel (683.03).

In the ladies championship where the best of 5 rounds count Lynn Gilbert (483.21) is almost certain to retain her crown for the 3rd year in a row with a record score already. Suzanne Gibson (469.25) is looking likely to be runner up again and with 3rd place likely to go to Judith Hickey (462.88).

Like the ladies the novice championship is based upon the best of 5 rounds to count and looks to be a battle between Chris Johnson (490.57) and Simon Bryer (388.42).

The overall champion is for 2011 decided based on each class champions score against various class records, now that the season is coming to an end and we have a clearer picture of what is happening Chris Howard Harris is in a strong position to become the first person even to retain back to back overall championships. In reality the only people likely to beat Chris are Richard and Tom Price and David Nelson who will need to put together some record breaking runs in the last few events to have any chance.

Thanks for your efforts with this Rob - looks like the Anglesey weekend will be a tense one for most of the classes.

Having checked the class 3 scores it seems that Tom's is still not correct following Shelsey and should be 98.84 instead of 98.94 (his best time was 32.63 compared to Richards 32.25).

I am sure David and Richard will be pleased with me for pointing this out *wavey*
