K series rad hose to water pump

Just put a new set of silicon hoses on my k series but can't get the big hose that connects to the water pump to seal.

As I tighten up the clip it slides off of the hose each time.

There's a ribbed taper going towards the pump and a shoulder at the other end of the pump connection so the clip needs to tighten around the flat piece in the middle (hope this makes sense) but every time I tighten the clip it slides forward and off the hose.

Doesn't help that you can hardly get your hand in.

Does any one have a tip on how to do this?

 

I note that on the original hose the clip was only just on the very edge of the hose.

Sounds like the hose might not be fully on the pump? Mine took a lot of time and patience massaging the damn thing into place, the silicone hoses don't have much give in them. Good times 😔

Agreed: you need to get enough hose beyond the clip: I don't think there is much technique other than that. Can we assume that everything is fully lubricated?

No even with it pushed on as far as it can go and holding it in place the pressure from the clip pushes it off.

 

Just taken another chunk out of my left index finger, I think the dinner plate hands and the small space don't help.

Sorry about the finger, but at least they heal, unlike 7s. (Waiting to see if it goes away is often a good tactic in medicine, unlike engineering. Although there is a suggestion in another thread that it works for some gearbox seals.)

 

Try a thinner/ different clip?
