guilleracing
I have a very standard series 3. The ARB makes part of the top wishbone/link I plan to change over to a top wishbone and more modern ARB. What bits do I need to change to go for a wide track at the same time. Cheers, Greg.
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted June 25, 2011 Area Representative Share Posted June 25, 2011 Hi Greg, I have just completed this upgrade on the R1 rebuild I did. Presumably you have an early De Dion car or a live axle one with the bottom trunnion setup? You will need the fixing to secure the top wishbone to the chassis. This requires a hole cutting in the sideskin and the special brackets (available from CC) to be slid through and bolted to the chassis. These fixings share the same bolts as the new front ARB mounts. So you will need : Upper widetrack wishbones Lower widetrack wishbones (which have spherical bearings in) De Dion type ARB with mounting plates Chassis brackets for upper wishbone front mouting New uprights to fit the spherical bearings Steering rack extensions for the track rods Longer brake hoses Extensions for your narrow track suspension or widetrack suspension Assuming you have the trunnion set up, the way the lower wishbone bolts to the front of the chassis will need modifying which may require the existing lug to be cut of the chassis and a new boss brazed in to take the usual 19mm headed bolt from the DD setup You can retain your hubs, stub axles, discs and callipers, steering arms, track rod ends as these are identical on either trunnion or spherical bearing upright, its just how they fix to the bottom that is different. Hope that's useful Nick

Englishmaninwales
Plus... 8 mm spacer that inserts above the lower spherical joint and a shouldered nyloc for the lower upright to wishbone/spherical joint.
