Gearbox breathers 4 speed

4 speed box recently rebuild by BGH is throwing out a small amount of oil. I think that its coming out of the breather and is finding its way into the car via the tunnel. If its not overfilled what is the cause and is the solution to put a small pipe into the breather hole and drop that into a catch tank 🙆🏻

As no one else has replied I thought I would.

Your hard driving is probably the cause of the problem !!! We used to have similar problems on the stockcar, particularly if the box was a bit older (we used to use Anglia boxes at one time . I used to find the cure was to braze a piece of brake pipe on top of the breather. Often the restricted tube and the additional height would cure the problem - you could also put a curl on the pipe. It wasn't normally necessary to fit a tube to a breather tank.

If you want I can braze a pipe to a gearbox top plate and you can try it out. I have an old gearbox in my garage that someone left behind 😬. I could pinch the plate off that

Is Dave Brodie still around? I am sure I can remember seeing a tussle between him and the venerable Gerry Marshall around the end of the 60's

That is spot on. Mammouth tussels also with one Frank Gardner in lots of three wheel motoring. You must be nearly as old as me (and Paul R )

I once drove a Twin Cam in the same race as Dave B. but was errrr ahem outclassed slightly ❗ ❗ ❗
