allegro
I have a repackable R500 silencer and have recently repacked it with glass fibre wadding. Is this right or is wire wool a better material 🤔   Andy Mac C7 GON 😬 Team Langoustine. Hard Core Prawn here 😬
peterg
best stuff to use is 'Basalt' available from www.techcraft.co.uk - it doesn't go brittle and last longer than anything else I've seen
Crany
Peter, Basalt comes in many forms, you need to find the grade used in exhaust systems by OE exhaust system manufacturers, alternatively if you can get your hands on some long strand e glass, this will stay in the box longer and is slightly more resistant to temperature. To insulate this material fron the temperature you could wrap the tube/s (if you can get at them) with stainless wool first to 10mm depth (20mm on diameter) wraped very tightly. Hope this is of some help ? Mark.
elie boone
Allegro, best is some stainless wool ( comes in rings ) around the central tube and then fill with the basalt. Will try to come up with the order ref. for the stainless wool.
peterg
Cranny Don't know about different types of the stuff but Techcraft selected their particular grade of Basalt as it copes with silencing 4 litre Judd V8s in Pilbeams/Goulds etc. - I trust Roy Lane (5 times British Hillclimb champion and whose company it is) to have done some research over the last 20 odd years that he has been making exhaust systems and it has worked fine in my cars (and without the steel wool option too 😳 )
