virden
I have just discovered that my local source of "ultimate" grade fuel has been withdrawn, the next nearest outlet is 55 miles away. My car is a std 1700 Super Sprint on 40s with a Lucas electronic dizzy. C/R is put at 9.75 so I have been running it on 102 Octane. Can I run it on "super" 98 Octane or would you advise some sort of octane booster?
Roger Ford
102 octane??? How much does that cost you per mile?
CaterBram
When I had the X/Flow in I was advised to run mine on either 98 or 99, with CVL
virden
It was 147p/litre compared with 137p for supermarket 4 star. So that works out at 27p/mile. A bargain! Where else could you get such smiles as cheaply? Any way, is it safe to run on the cheaper stuff?
Drumster
Always ran my 1800 x/flow with twin 40s and electronic ignition on 98 where possible, but it also managed a fair few miles abroad where sometime only 95 was available.
George C
98 Octane is fine. I am not too fussy these days and just use super unleaded 97 and up on very high compression, 1760cc etc etc XFlow and no problems. If I were to venture out on a track I woul use best Shell. OliverSedlacek
Mine runs fine on 95 octane at 9.8 : 1 compression, and it's done 35k miles like that.
Roger Ford
It was 147p/litre compared with 137p for supermarket 4 star You sure that was 102? BP 102 (the only pump variety I know of) was £2.42 a litre back in 2006, haven't seen prices recently but would have expected at least £3 a litre, perhaps a lot more. Though I see it's now been withdrawn completely.
