Support Team Shaun_E Posted May 5, 2011 Support Team Share Posted May 5, 2011 I have just started to fit my Brise alternator which is supplied with a small pulley for a 4 rib belt. Brise have supplied me with a pulley for a 5 rib belt but I can't see any way of removing the existing pulley. Any one got any ideas? There is nothing substantial enough to jam a screwdriver in to stop the pulley rotating.
Drumster
Shaun, just had to do something similar with the Valeo that Raceline supplied, but I'll be bu66ered if I can remember how I managed it, after all it was all of 2 months ago I'll keep thinking..... ECR
Hold the pulley in a rag or similar and use an impact gun as suggested ...
Drumster
Ah, It's all coming back to me now 😬 That's what I did after I struggled with a few other methods, I think...... 😬
Support Team Shaun_E Posted May 5, 2011 Author Support Team Share Posted May 5, 2011 Guess what! I used an impact wrench. Thanks all. Had to go to screwfix to get a 7/8" (22mm) impact socket though.
Sheds Moderator
Get an old fanbelt, wrap it round the pulley nice and tight then grip the fanbelt in a vice. You can then undo the nut. Or use a rag like Roger says, or a loop of rope that you can twist round with a bar until it goes tight, then wedge the bar in such a way that the pulley won't turn and crank away with a spanner to your heart's content.
