Water level

Hello

I own a Cat 7 Super Sprint (year 1990) Ford XF engine

I fitted a closed header circuit with a thermostat housing from Fiesta and a Rover headertank (with new cap) like picture :

my problem : when I drive a long time at high rev, the water overflows (a little) , but the temperature stays normal (80°C).

after many test, It seems the good level in water tank is when it is empty !!!

is it normal Doctor ?

Thanks for any information

Sorry for my poor language ! 😳

Hi Fanch

I've done the same mod and found that it lost water until I replaced the pressure cap on the thermostat housing with a blank cap without the pressure release. I then ran the small "overflow" pipe into the connector on the top / front of the header tank to bleed air back to the tank.

The plastic "Rover" cap has a pressure release valve in it, I think at 1.4 bar

No problems with water loss or over heating since.

Franch,

I have the same set up and had the same problem too.

I managed to cure it be not using the water level mark on the expansion bottle.

I jack up the rear of the car as high as I can get it and slowly fill via the bottle.

This removes any airlocks.

When the bottle starts to fill I level the car and top up the water level to about 3/4" (20mm) from the original mark on the bottle.

This allows a slightly bigger expansion space and stops the water overflowing.

Try it and if it cures the problem you just need to mark your new level on the bottle *smile*

Good luck

Steve
