Wil Akroyd
Could anyone give advice on a decent oil ( or what grade) to put in a dva 'd 1600k? And any tips on changing the oil with an appollo involved or is it just like normal? Thanks wil
Stationary M25 Traveller
5W-50 synthetic for me in 160 bhp k-series. Just like normal. There won't be much left in the Apollo when you drain the sump. If you want to drain the dregs out of the Apollo (which I don't), you can use a big spanner on the hexagonal bottom of the Apollo, then unscrew the drain plug in the base of it. Don't try this without holding the hexagonal base !! It is fragile.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted April 21, 2011 Area Representative Share Posted April 21, 2011 Wil I use Valvoline 5w-50 synthetic, but many use Comma synthetic or Halfords own synthetic, which I understand is really Comma anyway. You'll need a couple of tubs, as it takes around 7 litres.

Jetto
I used Gulf competition 5w40 ester synthetic (usually quite expensive but it was on offer). I have an ally plate under the front end of my ex race car which guards the under side of the apollo so I bought myself a cheap 2 litre volume suction pump/can off ebay to suck the residual oil out of the apollo from the top. I had about 1.5 litres in the apollo after dropping the majority of the oil from the sump plug.
Stationary M25 Traveller
If you disconnect the top breather hose from the Apollo the night before changing the oil, the oil will drain down into the sump.
