Alex Birtwisle
My father owns a 1929 Hillman 14, he always used to run it on 2-Star but since it was last on the road 2-Star is no longer available. So .... my question is what can he safely run it on now? Would I be correct in thinking that fuel in the 20's and 30's was unleaded? Would it be ok to run it on unleaded now? The engine is a 1956cc, long stroke, side valve lump that will deliver about 24bhp on a good day! Cheers Alex B S713 UMY 1.8k Viper Blue with Crutch Straps !BAN THE CUCUMBER! New Barbie
Fuel in the 20's and 30's was leaded. He should probably use Lead Replacement Petrol (LRP) Alternatively, you can buy a lead alternative supplement to add to standard unleaded. Chances are though, it'll run on unleaded with a little tweaking.
F355GTS
Why not run it on 4* available from a large number of garages now, It might need the timing advancing a few degrees to compensate Site here to find a supplier http://www.leadedpetrol.co.uk/list.htm Mark
Alex Birtwisle
Splendid .... the ignition (advance/retard) timing is adjusted on the steering column so that isn't a problem Cheers Chaps Alex S713 UMY 1.8k Viper Blue with Crutch Straps !BAN THE CUCUMBER!
