L7C Round 1 - Silverstone

Silverstone was mainly nice and sunny, interesting track and a decent length.

Some people won their classes, but as usual I can't recall who!!

Class one had a new winner 😬 😬 😬 - it has taken 3 years of trying and a change of car, but I finally achieved it. (sorry for the shameless self congratulation!)

Congratulations to Steve Causey who got second - his highest placing.

Oh... and not forgetting our sponsor who provided us all with some very fetching headgear.

If I've worked it out correctly (flames incoming *wink*):-

Class 5 David Nelson 101.13

Class 4 Stuart Miller 103.70

Class 3 Jeff Smith 106.13

Class 2 Matthew Jenkins 110.89

Class 1 Paul Boston 116.12

and Suzanne Gibson with 93.72%

Not sure who's the top novice *confused*

..and all class records *tongue*

Well done all, see you at Curborough 1...car to fettle

Thanks Chris

Don't forget, also a class record 😬

Close run thing though, with only 3 tenths between us. Mike scores 99.72. Looking forward to a close season results wise! Paul and I thought we'd give Mike a chance though and we all ran on the Kumho - Avons stayed on the trailer for the day.

Good luck at Goodwood and hope to see you at Llandow and Lys.

Best

Stu

Hi Guys

Glad you all had a good time in the end.

I have had a number of comments regarding the running on the day and issues with regard to the circuit.

If anyone else would like to comment please feel free to email and I will take up the points with the organisers.

Unless we feed back they will not know.

Simon

To recap:

The morning was very slow and we did not finish practice until almost midday. The following runs, in my opinion, considering the number of entries, the organisers got through in good time. David, Mike and I stayed for the prize giving. The clerk of course apologised for the morning run difficulties and promised a more efficient and better organised day next time around. At least they have acknowledged the poor organisation and know they have to do better. Good on them for admitting the short comings!

Other comments:

The use of cones to mark part of the course is fair enough, but if there are cones then they should be there for ALL the runs. I think it was a close call whether some of us had two wheels on the course at all times. Saying that, with the number of marshalls at the event, one would expect to have been flagged if we were not on the course. If you look at the results, there are a number of "fails" posted for various cars so I guess some were flagged.

The main pit wall seemed a little low to me. We were going past at the best part of 100mph. The quick single seaters are probably travelling in excess of 150 / 160mph. It seems to me that if something were to go wrong then there is only a two and a half foot high armco between the car on track and the 30 or so cars in the pit lane. Just an observation..

The paddock is not very good for your tyres! Several of us did not park in the paddock between runs for this reason.

All in all a good event.

Stuart

Is this a different Simon Jenks than competed in Class 5 last year ? and if so does this mean we've got 2 Simon Jenks competing this year ?

I take it the following entries this year have competed in years prior to 2010 ?

1-David Brown

1-George Foster

1-Iain Pearce

1-Jacob James

1-Robert Jacobs

2-Johnathan Ward

3-Andrew Thompson

3-Judith Hickey

4-Martyn Mills

5-Darren Luke
