mav
As the subject says: What is the offset for 15" wheels on De-dion, & how do you work out the size of a slick tyre? A quick search of the archives has not helped TIA Martin
SteveP
Mav, No idea on the slicks, but my 15" Prisoners have a +13mm offset. SteveP
Mike Bees
The offset you need has more to do with the rim width than the rim diameter. Mike
mav
More info then please Mike. Thanks for the info on the Prisoners Steve
Mike Bees
Erm.... The offsets for the stock Caterham wheels are, erm... in the build manual... which I don't have to hand... IIRC 13x6 and 16x7 are +18mm. The Prisoners mentioned as +13mm are 15x6.5. Mike
SteveP
There seems to be a little disagreement over offsets for 13 x 6 rims (see other threads), but the ones I have are +23mm (KN Minators) SteveP
Paul Ranson
how do you work out the size of a slick tyre? You read it on the side wall? The convention with slicks seems to be inches for crossply and mm for radial, although I'm sure that's not universal. So a 7.0/21.0x13 is a crossply, 7 inches across the tread and 21 inches in diameter for a 13 inch diameter wheel rim. A 210/550R13 is a radial, 210mm across the tread and 550mm in diameter, again for a 13 inch diameter wheel. This is roughly equivalent to 8.2/22.0x13 even if the numbers don't quite add up. Road tyres are usually sized in tread width/sidewall height as a percentage of tread width x wheel diameter. So a 185/60R13 is roughly equivalent to a 185/(185*0.6*2 + 13*25.4)R13 slick. That's near enough 185/550R13. Digging into the Avon web site will produce a wealth of example sizes. Paul
mav
Thanks Guys. I'll be able to sleep better now i know what the numbers mean on the supply of 15" slicks I have been offered.
