Loverobot
About to fit a cargo net to the passenger footwell on the outside but not sure what there is between the footwell and the sideskin? Am torn between rivetting and using self tappers What is the actual sidewall of the footwell made of and how much space is there between the footwell side and the actual sideskin? What have others used - self tappers (if so what size please?) or rivets? Any tips to avoid damage ensuing would be greatly appreciated!
Sheds Moderator
On the outside? Are you sure? Have I misunderstood?
spiderlane
Hi boss, I assume LR means on the inside of the footwell but on the left, rather than attaching it to the tunnel wall. In the past (on a previous car) I've used the self tappers that came supplied with the luggage nets from James Whiting. I remember agonising about whether I'd hit a chassis rail or not with the holes, but in the end I just went for it and it was fine.
Support Team Shaun_E Posted April 1, 2011 Support Team Share Posted April 1, 2011 The internal sideskin is aluminium and the gap between it and the outer skin is the width of the chassis tube (about 3/4 of an inch I guess, maybe an inch). If you drill carefully then you won't hit the outer skin.
Stuart McGill
I used SIkaflex for mine as I had some spare... its not going to be coming off anytime soon tho (not that I have the car anymore) ☹️
Drumster
Mine is riveted in place . Plenty of room for riveting, just a little awkward.
Loverobot
boss - lol it would be useful on the outside though! guys - will use a really short drill bit and rivet I think as an inch is fine space wise Thanks

alan c
If you use a magnet you can find the steel frame and avoid it. Alan
