jackb_ms
Hi What size should the bolt holding the alternator be? Is it UNF or metric? Jack
Sheds Moderator
It's one of those horrible ones on a K where it could be either. I think it's Metric, 14mm on an M8 but 9/16 UNF is very close indeed and it could be that. I take it you mean the pivot bolt? There are 2 bolts after all on a K, and the rather nice tensioner arrangement. You will have to try it...
jackb_ms
Cheers batteredoldsupersport I've fitted an M8 and it seems ok. The tensioner is rather crude! I've set the tension to something similar to the dry sump belt so it should be ok. jack
oilyhands
Allengine realted fastenings are metric, chassis related ones are usually UNF. Oily

Sheds Moderator
Oily has it as you might expect. I'm getting confosed with earlier Rovers, some of then had both types of fastener, the UNFs were carried over from the A series. I think the K series alty tensioner is very good, it's a bloody sight better than the usual method of getting a bar in and tensioning the belt while doing up a fastener. If it's really well designed you need 2 hands to do up the clamp bolt and you end up negotiating the lever with a knee or a foot. Compared to that sort of buggeration the K series method of "leave the bolts slack, twiddle the tensioner, when it's right do up the clamp bolts" is a joy.
