jackb_ms
Hi Does someone knows what size the bolts holding the gearbox to the chassis should be? Cheers Jack
Sheds Moderator
No, but I'd guess they used to be a UNF and are now metric. The old ones might have been 3/8 UNF with a 9/16 head, that seems about right. Probably now M8.
jackb_ms
Hi Thanks for the info I have some M8 Hex head bolts which are 50mm long. The question is will the be long enought? Jack
Sheds Moderator
Measure up, you need 1.5 x the dia engaged in the threads as I recall for it to be safe. So you need 12mm min to go in the chassis and whatever the thickness of the gearbox flange is, and a washer. Also check the threaded bits in the chassis are deep enough, you don't want the opposite problem where the bolt bottoms out inside the chassis before it's properly tight on the gearbox flange or lug. Stationary M25 Traveller
The two bolts are pretty short. They only go through the gearbox mounting saddle plate and into the nuts (don't remember if they are loose nuts, or welded to the chassis). The single bolt in the middle of the saddle plate goes into a blind hole in the gearbox.
Rich N
Have you got this sorted Jack? Only 48 hours to go 😬 Don't forget about the (slightly over-priced) motorits parts center on Drayton road.
jackb_ms
I've got some M8 50mm long which should do the trick nicely! Jack
Steve-B
Jack I recall these are US sizes I think. Do you want me to bring US sockets on Sat AM?
jackb_ms
HI Steve I'm changing them for metric and the old one have disapeared . It might be a good idea to bring some tools like socket set with extension bars. Cheers Jack PS: Did you receive my e-mail
