sevenmad
Anybody else got an annoying high pitched "rattle" from the driver's side headlamp and bracket at tick over? On my sigma roadsport, tick over at 800 rpm obviously produces a harmonic rattle in the assembly which is really intrusive, like a high pitched squeal . The only answer is not to get stuck in traffic, no end of tightening the fixings make a difference, though touching the headlamp make it dissappear. Anyone so afflicted or got an answer? Are the latest (?EU4) brackets any better.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Is it the glass in the rim, or the rim on the bowl ? Maybe a bit of something sandwiched in these joints ? Are all the w-clips present that hold the glass/reflector to the rim ?
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted February 26, 2011 Area Representative Share Posted February 26, 2011 Are the headlight bowls riveted to the small mount they fix to? Maybe one has come loose slightly
Bricol
Tweak the idle speed up to 825? Bri
Nigel R300
I had a similar rattle and it was the rivets in the headlamp bowl i put some silicone sealant around the bracket and the rattle stopped
John Vine
If all else fails, try sticking on a few of the adhesive wheel-balancing weights to the inside of the bowl. That might just alter the resonant frequency enough. JV
Piers Rendell
Same a Nigel above on my R300.
sevenmad
Thanks all, The lens and rim are tight. I'll have a look at the rivets to see if they are loose, otherwise I'll try the weights to see if I can alter the "harmonics"
Myles
My left headlamp always wobbled more than the right - but I certainly couldn't hear anything!
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted February 26, 2011 Area Representative Share Posted February 26, 2011 My rattle was the rivets in the bowl. Applied a little araldite to cure it.
