Alan Reeves
I have a serious vice for such an amateur - z-Vise by ZYLISS of Switzerland. I think I got it in the Ideal Home some years ago and it is a versatile piece of kit that has simple abilities to transform it to a variety of vices, drill press, pipe holder, swivel, angle. Difficult to describe ... But where can it be obtained- no idea and have not looked at the web.

Redmax
Quoting Alan Reeves: http://www.myhomeworkshop.com/zvise.html This is it That looks clever, but on balance I think I'd prefer a built-in vice. Does your's cope with heavy duty hammering for example? I had one of these previously, but I sold it with my last workbench, and Machine Mart been out of stock for ages: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-cmv140-multi-purpose-cast-iron-vice/path/vices I bought the Sealey version but you couldn't stop the jaws rotating - ridiculous. I think Axminster do a version but I'm not keen on the colour!
Alan Reeves
This is to beautiful to give a big belting to ...Versitality and being able to move it around so easily, perhaps more woodwork than ironmongery
