Gridgway
This ECU is the early version of the Emerald M3DK ECU. The familiar Emerald enclosure contains a plug compatible programmable fuel and ignition ECU, with firmware options supplied to run both distributor and distributorless configurations triggered by the normal K-Series flywheel tooth pattern (36-4). This particular ECU has some significant heritage in the history of the Lotus 7 Club and the performance development of the K-series engine. The ECU was responsible for engine management duties on the original "King K" 253bhp engine fitted to Peter Carmichael's Superlight, as it competed and won in 2002's Clash of the Titans sprint showdown against Arnie Webb's K2RUM, later taking honours for the 2002 Class 5 Club sprint championship. The engine and ECU were repeatedly tested on Emerald and other rolling roads in excess of 250bhp and with a minimum 10% advantage over the best modified Caterham R500 engines throughout the rev range - the first K-series engine to produce this power output in a Caterham installation (credit owed to Dave Andrews, Roger King, Dave Walker, Ken Snailham and Brodie Brittain Racing). Compared to later Emerald ECU versions, this older model is a simpler package with simpler configuration options, but provides the same performance and drivability as the later models. The ECU software runs under Windows '98 but is largely the familiar M3DK software layout. The package includes: 1. Emerald 16 bit M3DK fuel and ignition computer suitable for K-series implementation only 2. Programming cable (requires D-Sub 9 pin serial connector on a Windows '98 PC/Laptop) 3. Both distributor and distributorless firmwares (36-4 trigger pattern) 4. Preprogrammed with a map for a 253bhp K-series (just add a £14k bespoke engine for R500 humbling performance) £250 An appropriate programming laptop can also be supplied at nominal, negotiable extra cost, if required.
