BGH type 9 Dipstick. How to measure oil level

Recommended Posts

I have a BGH alloy cased type 9 with a dipstick and trying to find out what the correct procedure is to measure the oil.

Do I:

A, screw the dipstick all the way in and back out again to measure it?

Or

B, just push it in as far as it goes without screwing it in and back out again?

It threads in 10mm so if I do it the wrong way it will be a fair bit out.

Also, anyone know the capacity of the BGH alloy cased type 9?

thanks

Jason

Is there a level plug also?

If yes, you could see which dipping method gives the correct reading once you've filled the box to the level plug.

If no, refer to the manufacturer (unless of course you get an answer here first)

Peter, yes there is but it's not in the same place as the cast iron version and happens to be next to one of the chassis braces so I can't get to it.

Malcolm, thanks, that means it only takes just over a litre. I guess BGH must have used some of the spare space inside to beef it up.

thanks
