Mavic82
Looking for some help on rear damper lengths please. I think that the rear caterham dampers for a '90 to '96 car with through DD tube mounting are around 450mm in length. I also believe the later '96 on under DD tube mounting dampers are around 475mm long. I have acquired a set of AVO units which are around 458mm, do AVO offer two different lengths or just one mid size? Looking for confirmation on standard dimensions and any experience of AVO options. Can't speak to AVO today 😬 Thanks Guy
Shad
With my AVOs, I can't fit them on the through the tube mount because on full extension it forces the de-dion into the chassis rails. Using the other mount, the de-dion sits slightly higher than the Bilsteins at full extension. Simon niknak.org
Mavic82
Simon, that is what I am worried about. I only have the through DD mount. What length are yours or do you know the part number that was on the box? Thanks Guy
Shad
I got them second hand so don't know what the part number is, but I'll go measure one this afternoon Simon niknak.org
Shad
Well, I'm not sure this really helps but I estimate my dampers to be between 470mm and 480mm long. Mine is a 2002 chassis. Simon niknak.org
Mavic82
Simon, Many thanks for taking the time to measure yours. That does suggest there are two lengths and that mine are the shorter version Thanks Guy
Englishmaninwales
I have AVOs on a 94 car with through the DD tube mounting, currently off the car so I will measure them tomorrow Malcolm
Englishmaninwales
435mm +/- 1mm, centre of eye to eye, fully extended. Malcolm
Mavic82
Many thanks Malcolm, That throws up a curve ball. I will have to wait until Tuesday and speak to AVO. If yours are 435mm and Simons are around 475mm for through and under DD respectively what the hell are mine....... May be I have th wrong ones ☹️ and I was VERY specific on the details of my installation. Thanks Guy
Englishmaninwales
Mine were specified by Gary May (Freestyle)
Shad
Guy, are you measuring centre of eye to eye, or overall length? My figure was overall length, and if yours is too, then I would say it probably ties up with Malcolm's figure of eye-to-eye once you add on say ~20mm to get an overall figure. Mavic82
Simon, Ah no, I measured bolt centre to bolt centre as variances in design of the damper can change the other dimensions. The overall length of mine are around 495mm so I am back to thinking they are to long. Guy
