How do you stop your steering wheel wearing out?

Not a trick question! I have a suede steering wheel that I swear is only about a year old, as are the gloves I drive with. Anyway, it's starting to look a little second hand. I went for gloves with as much suede on the palms and fingers as possible to help keep the wheel looking good (figuring suede-on-suede would be a happy combination), and it's the areas of of the gloves that aren't covered in suede that have worn the wheel.

Is this unavoidable or is there a better solution? Most of the gloves available to buy have leather on the palms/fingers, and those with suede are about as comprehensive as my current gloves.

Well colour me educated- didn't realise it could be saved, I assumed all the suede had worn off the shiny bits on the wheel. Will try the steam and brush trick tomorrow, cheers 😬

Ta for the gloves link too Dave - I used to use GP2 gloves a while ago but my pair wore out, then I couldn't find a replacement pair.
