Andrew Willoughby
I'm looking for SLR/R300/R400 exhaust primaries and 4-2-1 collector. Any sprinters out there with these lying around, possibly from an engine upgrade, that they'd like to sell? Andrew
Adrian Williams
Hi Andrew Most R300 and R400's have the R500 4:1 system. The 4:2:1 is the older SLR system which is arguably better anyway. Good luck with your search. Adrian
robmar
If it is of any help - I have a powerspeed can from my old superlight (4-1) not been used for 3-4 years it is non-cat stainless steel it is of limited use to me these days so you could get the powerspeed 4-1 primaries to suit drop me a mail offline if interested rob
NoLimits
Andrew needs the primaries for a rather special silencer. The collector would preferably be the 4-2-1 hence the SLR request. But the R300/400 primaries are larger and the collector could be adapted to 4-2-1 www.7tips.co.uk - for all 7 related parts and upgrades.
Adrian Williams
Simon I'm afraid it's not as simple as that, you have to 'pair' the right cylinders on a 4:2:1 and the R3/4/500 primaries are paired diagonaly. You'd finish up with a snake pit collector that would be huge and probably impossible to make with secondaries of the correct length. If Andrew can find a complete SLR system he could then sell the can in order to make way for a nice new CIC one. Adrian
NoLimits
Ah Yes I seem to recall that about the R300/400 system now. That's why the SLR systems are so sought after. I wonder how much of a difference there is between the SLR with 4-2-1 compared to the larger R300 primaries and 4-1 collector make on a Supersport engined car. www.7tips.co.uk - for all 7 related parts and upgrades. NoLimits
Adrian Simonpa is offering a R400 system to Andrew via the wanted's and its listed as 4-2-1 So can that be done. Something tells me this is a R400D. Andrew is getting in contact with him anyway. Simon www.7tips.co.uk - for all 7 related parts and upgrades. Area Representative Richard Price Posted November 23, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted November 23, 2010 Didn't the first R400 race cars (that many were simply the old SLR race cars) still use the SLR 4-2-1? Maybe Simonpa's exhaust is of an R400 race car?
The Laddie
Andrew 😔 😔 😔 And after such a pleasant awards luncheon too 😬 Enjoy, Mike (aka VII SVN)
Adrian Williams
Simon I think Richard has the answer, I seem to remember SLR racers became R400 racers when a set of roller barrels and an MBE were added. Aparently there were some lucky owners at the end of the SLR production run who also benefited from this upgrade. 😬 The difference between a 4:2:1 and the big bore 4:1 on a standard SS running mems is probably very small if anything. Matthew Willoughby
This here is the collector that Dad has at the moment. I assume that this isn't "big bore"? Edited by - Matthew Willoughby on 24 Nov 2010 05:50:
Area Representative Richard Price Posted November 24, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted November 24, 2010 Andrew, There is another issue with fitting the R3,4,500 primaries when you've previously had the "competition" long 4 branch or the SLR system fitted. The R3,4,500 primaries exit the side skin much further forward, so the side skin hole needs opening out, but leaves a bigger hole behind.
Alan Bowler
Slight hijack maybe - is there an issue with running an R500 type system on a 1600/1800 supersport spec. engine? Isn't the bore too big to work properly? [Don't know what engine Andrew has/is planning to have]
Adrian Williams
Matthew, you're quite right that is NOT the big bore R500 collector. Richard, good point. Alan, I'd expect it to work significanly better than the standard one piece manifold but as above possibly not as well as the 4:2:1 SLR jobbie. Support Team rob spencer Posted November 24, 2010 Support Team Share Posted November 24, 2010 Andrew Earlier this year i picked up the primaries and a 4-2-1 collector (or rather Adrian W) picked it up for me) I think from Freestyle. They had a number of them which were redundant parts from an ex race team i believe. Might be worth giving them a call - even if they're not sponsoring the championship next year ☹️ Rob
Andrew Willoughby
Thanks everyone for all of the help and advice - I foolishly thought this was going to be a simple swap ! Lots of good points to consider (keep 'em coming!), and we'll get there in the end. Andrew
Mark Durrant
Andrew A spy in the class 3 camp has sugested a 4 into 1 inside the side skin with a silencer fitted with a low flow cat might be what you need next season 😳 😬
David Lynch
Andrew, as said above 4-2-1 (SLR) fits through same side skin hole as the lowslung external 4-1. Watch out for the clearance above the LH Engine mount EN Yorks 7's Flickr
NoLimits
Its all part of the Service Andrew. 😬 I wouldn't want to see a customer sold something that wouldn't fit 😳 www.7tips.co.uk - for all 7 related parts and upgrades.
