Classic SE Exhaust Mods

I have a 1600 XF classic SE with standard rear exit exhaust. I'm toying with the idea of trying to turn it into a side exit exhaust for two reasons; first to try and minimise rear vortex pushing fumes into the car and secondly asthetic appearance. I have two options either:

a. to shorten the standard Y - section (4-2-1 system), move the system forward, fabricate a braket to hold the silencer to the car body and fit a L shaped short exit pipe to the silencer

b. or shorten the Y section and using a very short staggered tube (increasing bore size) connect the narrower diameter standard Y section to an acquired larger bore side exit caterham silencer.

Has anybody tried either option and more importantly by changing the exhaust lengths and bore thickness am I in danger of altering the designed back pressures, nodal resonance etc which may the damage the engine. Conversely would I expect to see any beneficial changes.

Any views would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Kim
