Nick
Has anyone any experience of the Stack ST500 tach-timer thingy? The URL is http://www.stackltd.com/uksite/st500.html Hours of fun, or pants?! Thanks, Nick
Graham Sewell
Any idea how the road-legal speedo/odo is operated. i.e. existing speedo cable or little magnets on a wheel? Cheers, Graham
Roger Green
See the thread called 'purchase advice' in chit chat. Graham, it works by magnets. If you want a demo and you can get to Bracknell let me know - although I can't do it this week. Oh, and I'd certainly recommend them.
Chelspeed
It's actually a bit more sophisticated than the magnets used by SPA, Terratrip etc. It uses a proximity probe that "looks at" ferrous metal things, eg the bolt heads used to hold the disc onto the hub. Works very well for speed, odometer etc. The only problem is with the timing bit, if you set it to look at the bolts holding the disc to the hub there are only 4 per wheel rotation. The wheel can have moved significant distances before the STACK see's it as moved. I have got the STACK integrated dash, which does the same sort of thing as the ST500, and consistently under-read sprint timing (accurate to 100th second by light beams) by 0.7 secs. Conrad, who's on the Sevens list, has an ST500 which he thinks is excellent and he has arranged the sensor firstly to look at the 30 vanes within the vented disc and more recently the disc to bell bolts on Willwood discs. Obviously the more senses per rotation the better the accuracy. See Conrad's webpage, http://www.conrad.uk.net/westie for details.
