andy couchman
Just bought a pair S/H. ...er, how do they work? The big loop goes round your hand but the small loop the other end looks too small for the lap or crutch straps. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted November 1, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted November 1, 2010 Andy I tried them once (stock car racing), but didn't like them. However I believe they are to be fitted to the upper forearm just below the elbow with the other end attached in the region of the buckle. Many are designed for the latch type buckle on seat belts which is common in USA and favoured in UK by stock car drivers. In this case they fit as part of the buckle see:- here What type of fitting is on the end. Will it fit over the crutch strap? or the metal part of the end of the crutch strap before it goes into the buckle? Just be careful they don't interfere with the release mechanism of the belts. Z3MCJez
If you've got the Caterham ones, the small loop should be fitted over the shoulder belt catch, before you plug the hook into the buckle. The attachment point will therefore be (effectively) at the buckle, as the hole doesn't allow the wrist restraint to ride up the belt. The left restraint should then be set to be long enough to reach the switches / gearstick, but short enough that you can't reach the roll cage. The right restraint should be shorter so that you can't reach the upper cage on the side. This will ensure that hands stay within the cage, should the unthinkable happen. A bit of a pain to fit, especially in a hurry, but you won't notice them once you're going ... Jez
andy couchman
Thanks both. Yes, I think they're the Caterham ones and that makes sense Jez. Thanks again. Andy
