Kent versus Zetec

Fricke

Recommended Posts

The price info depends on what you have installed at the moment. If it is replacing an existing x-flow, then the Zetec will look expensive. E.g.

x-flow - buy second hand engine (probably < 500ukp) ???

rebuild by RK - (change from 1500ukp)

total - 2000ukp for upto 150bhp....

Zetec - buy second hand engine (probably < 1000ukp) ???

all ancilliaries to fit into Caterham bay > 3000ukp (James Whiting)

total - 4000ukp starting at 160bhp for 2000 engine in basic trim.

I did mine for just over 3K including engine. The Zetec is only slightly heavier than the X/Flow but with 160-165 Bhp in stock form on 40 DCOEs is more gutsy, smoother, quieter, oil tight, reliable, longer lived etc. Mail me at home if you would like more info.

Regards

Fricke, I'm looking at the same conversion. Rebuilding the Crossflow to 170 bhp by RK is around £2500-£3000, keeping the car original. Replacing with a Zetec from James Whiting, used but reconditioned engine, 3D etc. is around £3200. Replacing with a Raceline engine, NEW, same spec, is about £4200, both engines on carbs and providing about 170 hp. Both of the latter offer the oppertunity to upgrade to injection at a later date, and more power. The prices are for the engine installations to be performed by the firms mentioned, costs will obviously reduce if you do the work youself.
