Stef
Anyone use this in their caterham? is it ok? Doing my first trackday at the weekend and want to take some oil in case I need to top up but don't have time to get any caterham motorsport oil. If it's the same grade it should be fine shouldnt it? Its a 2007 1600 k series with apollo tank by the way Thanks
Mick Day
It's allegedly made by Comma who also supply the 5w50 oil to Caterham. As has been pointed out before there is no API certification on the bottle. Do you really need 5w50 in this cold weather? Most of us use 5w40 API SL all year round. Stef
cheers Mick, I was just going with 5w50 as thats what caterham say. What 5w40 do people use?

Mick Day
Any 5w40 API SL good quality oil will do; Halfords do a nice synthetic 5w40, again made by Comma (allegedly). You could try these people Opie Oils as they offer a club discount plus extra discounts from time to time. Don't discount using your local parts supplier as they often sell Comma oils at a lower price than Halfords own brand. Oil is a religion & as such there are so many opinions on what is best but consider this: as most people do little mileage & treat their car better than the average then a yearly oil/filter change with a good quality API SL 5w40 will more than suffice. mav
Unless Halfrods have very recently changed supplier their oil IS made by Comma, non of this alleged stuff

Stef
Cheers Petrol head. Can I just confirm is that the 5w50 motorsport oil? if it's good enough for an R500 and CSR I'm sure it's fine for my little 1600!
Jason Plato
do a google search for unipart 5/40 synthetic it's a major brand repackaged at a lot less than either halfords or comma I recall I picked up four jugs for about £18 each from unipart trade counter last year
TomB
I use the Unipart stuff in both the 7 and my older Audi A3 1.8 turbo. According to a FIAT forum that came up on a Google search, "Received word from Unipart today that their Syn Oil SAE 5W-40 is Fuchs TITAN Supersyn SAE 5W-40" So its a well known oil manufacturer. Ive used it for few years on the basis as its fully synth & meets all the guidelines, is changed once a year and Ive only got a 'cooking' 1.8k Supersport, it would be adequate. Nice to know its good stuff Edited by - TomB on 28 Oct 2010 10:51:
